Servo Rudder Power

Neptune steering control, linking the airfoil to the servo rudder, operates on double supported 4mm.or 0.16” diameter shafts which result in low friction. We recommend lubricating with PTFE Lubricant.

The bearings are constructed of Vesconite Hilube which has 50% of friction compared to Phosper Bronze .The manufacturers claim that this friction is further reduced by 50% when lubricated.

Beaufort force 2Wind speed 4-6 KnotsLight breeze

Sailing in light airs, the steering may be accomplished by the servo rudder only. This will only happen when the power arm movement is prevented by stiffness in the blocks, lines and main helm.

A yacht moving at 3 knots boat speed has these servo powers:

Neptune Model M650 power available at powerarm line attachment 300.Newton / 67 lbs. Force

Neptune Model M790 power available at powerarm line attachment 350 Newton / 79 lbs. Force

Neptune Model M950 power available at powerarm line attachment 400 Newton / 90 lbs. Force

Neptune Model M1070 power available at powerarm line attachment 450 Newton / 100 lbs. Force

Beaufort force 4Wind Speed 11-16 KnotsModerate Breeze.

The lift of the rudder is the square of the boat speed.

A yacht moving at 6knots boatspeed has these servo powers:

Neptune Model M650 power available at powerarm line attachment 1600 Newton / 360 Lbs. Force

Neptune Model M790 power available at powerarm line attachment 1900 Newton / 430 Lbs. Force

Neptune Model M950 power available at powerarm line attachment 2200 Newton / 500 Lbs. Force

Neptune Model M1070 power available at powerarm line attachment 2400 Newton / 540 lbs. Force
